The second annual Wahoo Tournament at Barefoot Cay took place on November 13. Twelve boats entered the competition paying $150 each for the right to compete for the cash pool of prizes. The winner took half of the money, runner-up took 30% and third place 15%. The remaining 5% was used to buy trophies.
The winner of the event was boat Madi Rae captained by Jerry Hynds Jr. The champions accumulated 146.77 points by catching three wahoos and two kingfish.
The second prize went to the crew of Galanque and their captain Chris Rosales. They caught 82.83 points worth of fish–two wahoos and two kingfish. Their most rewarding catching took them all the way to Puerto Castilla off the Honduran mainland.
Captain Kinsey Borden who caught the largest fish of the tournament says that they caught their 60.8 pound wahoo trolling at six miles-an-hour using a rapala bait at around 30-foot depth. The fish bit around 7am, as they found themselves 20 miles due south of French Harbour, close to Cayos Cochinos. [/private]
