Say Hello to a New Party

[private] v7-5-Speaking OutI would argue that the old English proverb is becoming clearly evident which suggests that “you can fool some of the people all of the time, most of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.” Individuals with some common sense and a little formal education have recognized that for our Islands to progress in an orderly fashion a change of leadership is most necessary. And God knows there is a lot to do and undo here in the Bay Islands.

Franklin D. Roosevelt once commented that “the only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today.” I believe that the future in a job lies not necessarily in the job but in the woman or man who holds the job. Drastic changes are called for here in the Bay Islands. Our politicians have become totally corrupt – elections are viewed as contests to be bought. Using the public till to bribe voters, and going from door to door offering gifts to individuals to vote for your candidate is not only unethical but illegal. We must clean up our act. Honesty has become a word missing in our vocabulary.

The scale of our challenge is great. I believe that this is the moment when we must come together to save our Islands. There comes a time when people must have a chance to choose their own tomorrow free from the shadows of yesterday. There have been differences between locals and fellow citizens from the mainland and no doubt, there will be differences in the future. But the burdens of commonality continue to bind us together. Partnership and cooperation among us is not necessarily a choice, it is the one way, perhaps the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity. History reminds us that walls can fall, but the task is never easy. True partnership and true progress requires constant work and sustained sacrifice.

It requires sharing the burdens of development and diplomacy; of progress and peace.

It requires allies who will listen to each other, learn from each other, and most of all, trust each other. I believe there is strong evidence that the general public is ready to embrace a third party here in the Bay Island. Both major political parties have little credibility and basically represent the old guard. The current environment is ripe for the founding of a new Bay Islands independent party, a party truly representative of the people, sensitive to the needs of the community, and willing to lead.

I honestly believe that our path to real reform and meaningful change lies in the foundation of a truly independent party.

Hard work and courage will be required to pull this off, but then again, the only thing that comes without effort is old age. You can feel it on Main street that the people are angry and fed up with our corrupt system of government and want change. I am convinced that the Bay Islands Independent Party can provide a pivotal role in providing that badly desired change. People want to make their own decisions, and not have someone else decide for them. They want and deserve their vote to count for something. Some people succeed because they are destined to, but most people succeed because they are determined to. The Bay Islands Independent party can be the vehicle to achieve that desperately desired change. [/private]
