Roatan volleyball squads have chalked up an impressive record in regional competitions in recent months.

The senior (over 20) women’s team swept four matches from La Ceiba teams at a weekend tournament in La Ceiba May 25-26. The under-12 girls team from Robert V. Stanley School (Sandy Bay School) recently won the Honduran national title for its age group and the right to travel to El Salvador in June for the Central American regional championship. However, its participation in that tournament is in doubt, because the Honduran sanctioning body owes $20,000 to the tournament organizers.

The under-12 boys team from Los Fuertes placed second nationally in a recent tournament.

The Bay Islands Volleyball League, in its third year, has 36 teams in five age divisions. The season began March 24, and cup and league championships will be contested in all divisions in June. Games are played Thursdays and Saturdays at Anthony’s Key Resort, Los Fuertes School and Santos Guardiola School in Coxen Hole.

Roatanian to Compete in Central American Beach Volley Tourney

Roatanian Cuny Miller and his teammate Willy Vega of San Pero Sula will represent Honduras at the Central American beach volleyball championship tournament in Panama July 18-23. The duo won the right to represent Honduras by winning the Honduran national tournament in Puerto Cortes during Semana Santa in April.
