The Roatan Lion’s Club organized a beauty pageant April 13 at Parrot Tree to select a Bay Islands entrant for the Miss Honduras competition to take place in San Pedro Sula April 27. It was the first such selection pageant held on the Bay Islands in 33 years. Monica Elwin of Oak Ridge was named the winner by the six-judge panel. She was also named Miss Congeniality and Miss Culture. Five young women, all from Roatan, competed in the pageant, representing Coxen Hole, Sandy Bay, West End and French Harbour, in addition to Oak Ridge. Proceeds from the pageant benefited the Children’s Foundation of Roatan.
