Nine teams competed for the championship of Roatan Basketball League this season: four from Coxen Hole, two from Oak Ridge, one from Flowers Bay, one from Politylly and one from Sandy Bay. The basketball season begun in June of 2011 and was supposed to finish in December, but due to heavy rain it only concluded in late January. Dope Boys won the championship in 2009, and in 2010 it was the Saint Helene that took home the trophy.

“It has improved quite a bit,” said Dr. Rayomnd Charrington, the leagues organizer and coach of the Coxen Hole Eagles, about the level of basketball competition on the island. Dr. Charrington has high hopes for the leagues under-12 team and its chances in the national competition on the mainland. The Mario Pinel league in French Harbour is another island basketball league playing on the field in French Harbour. [/private]
